Bantam specifications

We have owned and used dozens of varied models
of Howard rotavators (cultivators) over the years and have lots of manuals and instruction booklets covering the 'Gem' to the 'Bullfinch' which we shall attempt to include on this garden machinery section over the coming months.
As the specification leaflets say, the Bantam engine, in 1952 was a 2 stroke, 1¾ hp villiers engine or the well known 4 stroke, 2.35 hp AC engine developing 2200-2400 rpm.
The transmission consisted of four gears, two for lower cultivation and two for shallow digging or weeding, especially useful for inter-row weeding. The PTO obviously runs the varied attachments.
Quite unknown to most Bantam owners, the depth of cultivation control is in ½" stages and the solid rubber tyres are for extra grip in the lower gears.
