Is this the first nail gun invented?
Nothing is a new idea, a nail gun invented eighty possibly one hundred years ago, perhaps an original design that didn't go into production or possibly manufactured but too clumsy and slow to be successful.

Very basic yet clever in design it works thus:- 1'' nails are put into the holder which  fall into the three slots, points first (pic 4). The nails drop down the three slots which together feed one slot (pic7). There is always a nail under the plunger waiting to be driven into the wood by hitting the round leather pad  with a hammer which forces the plunger down at speed onto the nail head thus driving it into the wood. As the plunger is struck, a catch (pic 6) is automatically operated to push another nail under the plunger whilst the wire spring forces the plunger up ready for the next hammer blow.

It seems this nail gun was probably used quite a lot as it has various repairs to strengthen it but it still works very well.

If anyone has more information on this machine, perhaps they would like to email us.
